Matcha Mug Cake

Matcha Mug Cake

Need something sweet but don’t want to bake a full cake? This Matcha Mug Cake is ready in about two minutes. It’s soft, warm, and lightly sweet, with matcha adding a smooth, earthy depth that keeps the flavour balanced rather than overly sugary. Perfect for a quick dessert or late-night treat.

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp sugar (or coconut sugar)

  • ½ tsp ceremonial matcha, sifted

  • ¼ tsp baking powder

  • 3 tbsp milk (any type)

  • 1 tbsp melted butter or coconut oil

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Optional: white chocolate chips, honey drizzle, or chocolate chunks.

Method

1. Mix the dry ingredients
In a microwave-safe mug, combine flour, sugar, matcha, and baking powder. Stir well so everything is evenly distributed.

2. Add the wet ingredients
Pour in the melted butter, milk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth with no dry patches or lumps.

3. Microwave
Cook for 60–80 seconds, depending on your microwave strength. The cake should look set but still soft in the centre.

4. Finish and serve
Let it cool slightly, then add your favourite toppings.

Serving Ideas

  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream while it’s still warm.

  • Drizzle honey or maple syrup on top.

  • Dust with extra matcha or add whipped cream.

  • Sprinkle chopped nuts or granola for crunch.

  • Swirl in white chocolate, Nutella, or top with sliced banana.
