Our Story

"I didn't set out to start a matcha company. I just wanted to get through my mornings without feeling wired, anxious, and exhausted by noon."
— Shon, Founder

The Story

Like many women balancing work, family, and life, my days were full — sometimes overwhelming. Being a mum of three, mornings felt rushed, distractions were constant, and there were days when everything just felt like too much.

Coffee had always been my go-to. I was a heavy coffee drinker, relying on it to keep up with the pace of the day. But over time, I noticed the downsides — jitters, anxiety, energy crashes. Someone suggested coffee might be making it worse and encouraged me to try avoiding it. For someone who loved coffee, that felt almost impossible.

I started exploring alternatives and kept coming across matcha. The benefits sounded incredible — calm energy, focus, antioxidants — everything I was looking for. So I began hunting for good matcha in Australia.

The Search

Finding quality matcha wasn’t easy. Shelves were full of beautiful packaging and wellness claims — often with premium price tags — but the taste was disappointing: bitter, grainy, and far from the ritual I imagined. I tried a few cafés, and while some were better, many were overly sweet and expensive — not something I could see becoming part of my everyday routine.

Everything changed on a trip to Japan. I visited farms across the country and discovered Kagoshima.

The Farm

Kagoshima sits in southern Japan, where volcanic soil and unique growing conditions create naturally sweeter, smoother, and more vibrant matcha — not because of processing, but because of the land itself. I tried matcha there for seven days. By the end of the week, I could feel the difference: calmer, more focused, yet energized in a way coffee never gave me. It was the first time I truly fell in love with matcha.

But what made Kagoshima unforgettable wasn’t just the matcha — it was the people. The farmers took genuine pride in every harvest, refusing to cut corners and nurturing the land with care that showed in every cup. That authenticity is the standard we wanted to bring to Australia.

Why Iki Matcha Exists

Iki Matcha Co was built for the woman who takes her morning seriously. The founder. The professional. The person with a routine built with intention — skincare, movement, journaling, focus — who wants every part of it to actually work.

We source single-origin, first-harvest ceremonial matcha directly from our Kagoshima farm. No blends. No fillers. No shortcuts. Slowly stone-ground to preserve every nutrient and flavor. Packed fresh in Australia and shipped to your door.

Our goal is simple: bring the best matcha from a source we trust completely, at a price that makes it part of your everyday, not just a special occasion.

A note from Shon

If you've tried matcha before and been underwhelmed — I get it. I was too. The difference with Iki Matcha isn't just the origin or the grade. It's that every decision, from farm to packaging, was made by someone who actually drinks this every morning and wouldn't settle for anything less.

I hope it becomes part of your ritual the way it became part of mine.
